For my final wedding of the season I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Butler Pennsylvania where I was hired to photograph the beautiful wedding of Shawna and Jon Daugherty! The ceremony was hosted at the Community Alliance Church in Butler, PA and the reception in the town of Saxonburg. For people with a photography background sometimes photographing can be a challenge indoors when it comes to light. Fortunately for us the church was well equipped with great big windows illuminating the subject with the ever so sought after natural light!
One of my favorite moments from the day was when Shawna and Jon stood back to back and spoke to one another without actually seeing each other. There was an exchange of words, prayers, and yes even a rifle! There's just something so sweet about being in close proximity of the one you're going to spend rest of your life with and not seeing them. The raw emotion that comes through is so intense I found myself choking up just a tad while capturing those moments!
Not knowing much about the lay of the land I couldn't do much for choosing locations for bridal party photos, and Shawna didn't really have a preference. Considering that I decided we would get a convoy of cars and just head from one town to the other and if I saw something I liked we would pull over! Winging it isn't necessarily advised but when you don't have a good idea of where to shoot it can turn out to be your best option! Thankfully this was during the golden hour and we happened upon a sweet spot with a perfect break inbetween the trees where the sunlight peaked through for just long enough to get the most amazing shots of the day! It was one of those moments as a photographer where you get so amped about the light that you start jumping up and down and screaming "YES!" with every shot because you're so stoked about the light!
In conclusion, my time in Pennsylvania with Shawna and Jon and their family was an incredible experience that I won't soon forget! Everything from the raw emotion, to the beautiful landscapes, to light we were able to capture. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be a part their special day!
